Design a Onesie - Baby shower Activity

For my lovely friend's baby shower, we all had some crafty fun creating adorable onesies for the little one. It was far from the usual and everyone took part in it. Even kids were kept busy with it.

We had two types of onesie design:

  1.  Pre-cut fabric designs to be ironed onto the onesie
  2.  Use fabric paint and pens to paint the onesies to heart content. We also provided some fun stencils for the guests to use.

It was delightful to see some fun onesies. My favorite was to put shapes on the bum...!!
What fun this activity was...!!!

Mom-to-be took this to next level and sent the picture of the little one in these cute custom onesies made just for her... how sweet...

So below are the instructions on How to make the onesie station:

Things needed:
  • Onesies of different sizes or a set like this
  • Different pieces of Fabric - cotton lace, any extra fancy cloth.
  • Shapes to cut the cloth - download online or use something like this to trace and cut
  • Fabric Paint - like this
  • fabric marker - like this
  • Stencils/Stamps - like this and this
  • Fabric scissors
  • Iron on sheet - like this
  • Iron
  • Ironing board
  • Painters tape
  • Cardboard
  • Name tags
  • Some baskets
  • Pen holders
  • Brushes
  • Gloves
  • Aprons (optional)

For Pre-cut fabric designs:

1. Wash all the onesies and the fabric, if not there is possibility they will shrink oddly later.
2. Iron them as well.
3. Follow the heat bonding sheet instructions and iron it to the fabric
4. Cut the fabric into small squares.

Optional: You can trace the shapes on to these fabric pieces and cut them into shapes. This will save time during the event.

Instructions for guests:

For Fabric :

1. Take the onesie and fabric of choice.
2. Trace the shape onto the fabric piece and cut it into the desirable shape.
3. Place the fabric on the onesie and iron with appropriate heat setting.

For Painting:

1. Take a onesie and place the cardboard under the area to be painted.
This avoids any paint to seep onto the other side.
2. If using a stencil, do remember to use painter tape and put the stencil in place.

Finally, remember to add a name tag to claim your design.

Useful tips:

  1. Use high heat so that the fabric bonds well and does not come off after using.
  2. We used paper bags and inserted them into the onesies to hang them as show in the pictures.
  3. When washing turn the onesies inside out or else the fabric might come loose at the edges.

Final Output:

So, I hope this article was helpful and inspired some of you to get creative when throwing a baby shower next time around.
